A five-star approach to sustainability
One of the world's most coveted five-star resorts, Gleneagles Hotel, has made the landmark move to reduce its energy use by switching from traditional incandescent and halogen lighting to energy efficient LEDs.
The renowned Gleneagles Hotel, set in 850 acres of Perthshire countryside, is a member of The Leading Hotels of the World. As such, Gleneagles Hotel is committed to working towards a sustainable future - having already been awarded a prestigious Gold Award from the Green Tourism Business Scheme for its environmental work and published its own Sustainability Policy.
Within the Sustainability Policy, energy management was highlighted as a key factor. After a successful trial, Gleneagles Hotel selected GE Lighting to help make the switch from inefficient incandescents and halogens to energy efficient alternatives that crucially, would not compromise light output and the hotel's established aesthetics.
GE Lighting provided a range of LEDs, including the 7W GU10 LED and the new GLS Energy Smart 9W LED. Both LEDs ensure a high efficiency output is maintained long-term to ensure substantial energy and cost reductions. In the bar area alone, 120 40W incandescent lamps were replaced with 9W Energy Smart LEDs, reducing running costs from £4625 to just £1156 in just under a year.
After working with GE Lighting, Gleneagles Hotel has achieved a staggering 66% reduction in energy use.
