Sports lights by GE Lighting Europe at London Olympics

Did you know?

As a London 2012 Sustainability Partner and a Global Olympic 2012 sponsor, GE Lighting has worked alongside the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG) to deliver a series of lighting projects.

Would you like to know more? Here are some of the most remarkable facts about our contribution:

  • GE Lighting has transformed London's iconic Tower Bridge with a new state of-the-art lighting system – designed to enhance its architectural features and replace static lights with bulbs that can vary in intensity and colour, while at the same time cutting energy consumption considerably.
  • GE Healthcare is supplying digital imaging equipment to the Polyclinic including MRI, CT, X-Ray and Ultrasound equipment allowing the diagnosis of even the smallest strains and sprains to provide athletes and coaching teams with vital information for competition.
  • GE Lighting's Odyssey luminaires and CMH Streetwise lamps will ensure the highest levels of security within the main visitor areas in the Olympic Parks.
  • GE is supporting British Triathlon Elite events, Elite Paratriathlon team, Age Group teams, home nation regional academies, and the British Triathlon Coach Development programme.
  • During the Olympic and Paralympic Games, a total of 23,000 athletes and officials will reside in the Olympic Village. GE Power Controls are supplying some of the power distribution equipment to the residential apartments helping to power the Games. GE Water & Process Technologies are providing monitoring systems for storm run-off water at the Village.
  • GE Lighting has provided energy efficient, low impact lighting for permanent as well as temporary lighting installations that will either continue to deliver energy savings for years to come or allow lamps to be re-used in projects around the city after the Olympics ends in August 2012.
  • GE's Olympic Games partnership was launched in January 2005 and an extension to the partnership was announced in July 2011 to take it until 2020, including the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia, the Games of the 2016 Olympiad in Rio, the 2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea and 2020 Summer Games.

  • We have provided our powerful LED Floodlights to light the giant Olympic Rings and Paralympic Agitos for the 45 days of the Games across UK, in Belfast, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Cardiff c London's Trafalgar square.
  • GE Energy has delivered three J620 (9.9MW) Jenbacher power plants to provide power, heating and cooling across the Park for Games time. In legacy, the systems will also be used for the new buildings and communities that will develop after 2012.
